John Fisher

Director of Community Engagement

Spreading the Word, Building the Community

John Fisher brings a wealth of experience to the CenTex BBQ Roundup, but what truly defines him is his commitment to building something greater than himself. With a servant’s heart and a deep love for Central Texas, John sees community not as a place, but as a shared purpose. His work is driven by a belief that strong communities are not created overnight. They are cultivated through trust, generosity, and people showing up for each other.

John’s journey of service began in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a military police K-9 handler. His assignments included special operations in support of the Secret Service for the President, Vice President, and visiting dignitaries. He also trained and operated with the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force, gaining first-hand experience in high-pressure, high-responsibility environments. This early foundation in discipline, leadership, and public protection set the tone for a lifetime of service to others.

Over the decades that followed, John continued that commitment through law enforcement and public service, serving with the Texas Department of Public Safety, working within the Governor’s Protective Detail, and later being appointed to the OneStar Foundation. Yet despite this distinguished background, John prefers to let his actions speak for themselves. He focuses less on what he has done and more on what we can accomplish together.

At CTBR, John leads the charge in connecting with the local organizations, volunteers, and neighbors who are the heartbeat of this event. From Rotary Clubs to rodeos, and the Lions Club to car shows, he works to bridge the gap between civic pride and everyday kindness. John’s role isn’t just about outreach, it’s about inviting people to be part of something meaningful, where everyone has a seat at the table and a stake in the outcome.

His philosophy is simple: true service is not just about giving. It is about teaching, empowering, and helping others find their own strength. As the old proverb says, give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. Inspired by Matthew 4:19, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men,” John strives to create opportunities where people grow, share, and contribute to a more united Central Texas.

As a key member of the Roundup team, John brings a steady hand, a generous heart, and a vision rooted in service. He is helping turn a simple gathering into a powerful movement, one that celebrates our culture, supports our neighbors, and builds a stronger Central Texas, one act of kindness at a time.
